I already did one post this week, but I saw this fun book tag on Nicki’s Secret Library Book Blog (and later on Kristin Kraves Books) and decided to join in with a quick, lighthearted post. Feel free to check out Nicki’s and Kristin’s blogs, both of which I enjoy reading.
1. Inside flap/Back of the book summaries: Too much info? Or not enough?
Ideally, there is enough information to give a broad idea of the tone and the content of the book. There is nothing worse than getting a full summary of the plot though. I prefer to be surprised.
2. New book: What form do you want it in? Be honest: Audiobook, E-Book, Paperback, or Hard cover?
I love audiobooks! Since I rarely have time to sit down with a book, I would never get any reading done, if it wasn’t for audiobooks. For technical books with diagrammes and formulas, I still get physical copies.
3. Scribble while you read? Do you like to write in your books, take notes, make comments, or do you keep your books clean clean clean?
Since I mostly own e-books and audiobooks, I don’t normally scribble. My technical books are attacked with highlighter, pen, notebook, and every other support, which can help me decode the deeper mysteries of neuroscience, quantum physics and modern evolution theories.
4. Does it matter to you whether the author is male or female when youβre deciding on a book? What if youβre unsure of the authorβs gender?
It doesn’t matter at all. For instance, I picked up Robert Galbraith’s detective series about Strike and Robin and enjoyed it just as much as if it had been written by a female author. π
5. Ever read ahead? Or have you ever read the last page way before you got there?
I might have done this as a child, but nowadays I would never skip to the last page. I think. Probably.
6. Organized bookshelves, or outrageous bookshelves?
Organised! Since I got my Kindle, I only keep a miniscule selection of physical books, mostly about art, science, philosophy, travel and photography. Marie Kondo would be so proud!
7. Have you ever bought a book based on the cover (alone)?
I never judge anything or anyone by the cover! π
8. Take it outside to read, or stay in?
Both, depending on the weather. I often listen to audiobooks, when I walk around in London.
Do you fancy joining in? Consider yourself tagged!
So glad you joined in! I love your answers and that meme about audiobooks is brilliant!
Thanks! Yes, I thought that meme about audiobooks was spot on! π
Love your answers! That Marie Kondo meme is great. She would NOT be proud of me πππ
Haha, I think I am quite an unusual book blogger in that respect, it is my impression many book bloggers have books placed on every horizontal surface in the house π
Sounds familiar, haha
Haha – loved your Robert Galbraith answer! I don’t care about the gender of the author either – why should it matter? I wish I could get down to thirty books – I cull often, but the piles still seem to get bigger every day…
Yeah, I don’t know anyone who would choose books based on the gender of the author. But I guess many people may prefer certain sub-genres or certain topics which give them a bias towards male or female authors, i.e. an indirect gender selection.
Haha, I have this image of you attacking the books with highlighters etc! The Book Jedi! Wonderful Tag! I think I’m gonna prepare it for the Suntag next week! π x
Book Jedi – love it! May the Force be with you π π. Would be great if you join in – I would love to read your answers!
Fab answers! I love audiobooks too, this last year Iβve seen a massive increase in how many Iβve been listening too π
Thanks!π Be careful, once you get started with audiobooks, you can’t go back π. The only downside is, they are rather expensive!
They definitely are! I get listen to most of them from my library app, they just don’t have the biggest selection.
Ah, that is a good solution. My library app doesn’t have a great selection either, but I do find something from time to time (if you are based in the UK, we probably have the same library app…)
Yeah Iβm in the UK so we probably do!
Listening to audiobooks while you walk around London? You lucky, lucky reader! I loved your answers, especially your clever Galbraith answer and also the Marie Kondo graphic. I may have told you already, but Iβve not yet read Harry Potter. I have done the sorting, and while Iβve always been told Iβd be a Hufflepuff, I turned out a Ravenclaw. That graphic actually suits me! π I didnβt know about Ravenclaws and books! Your answers were all fun!
Yes, I remember you haven’t read Harry Potter. Seriously… π. Hopefully, you get to them one day. The audiobooks narrated by Stephen Fry are highly recommended. There is a lot of humour in Harry Potter, which is captured perfectly by Fry. I haven’t done a sorting test, but I would be highly surprised if I didn’t turn out to be a Ravenclaw as well. But apparently one which prefer electronic books…
Loved your graphics too and the wonderful answers! I had no idea when I read The Silkworm (there was a lot of speculation then which author was behind the pseudonym) and would never have guessed this author really so it doesn’t really play with me… I just like to know :-). Nice tag, I think most of my answers would be the same, except that I still haven’t really tried audiobooks very seriously π
Thanks Inge!π Perhaps audiobooks are not right for everybody, but you should give them a chance. With the right narrator, it can be such a great experience.
Oh yeah I don’t like getting too much of the plot in blurbs! I love audiobooks. And yeah I really don’t care about the author’s gender. Awesome answers!
Great, it sounds like we agree on this! I bet, I have fewer books than you though π
