Book Tag: Inside and Out

I already did one post this week, but I saw this fun book tag on Nicki’s Secret Library Book Blog (and later on Kristin Kraves Books) and decided to join in with a quick, lighthearted post. Feel free to check out Nicki’s and Kristin’s blogs, both of which I enjoy reading.

1.  Inside flap/Back of the book summaries: Too much info? Or not enough?

Ideally, there is enough information to give a broad idea of the tone and the content of the book. There is nothing worse than getting a full summary of the plot though. I prefer to be surprised.

2. New book: What form do you want it in? Be honest: Audiobook, E-Book, Paperback, or Hard cover?

I love audiobooks! Since I rarely have time to sit down with a book, I would never get any reading done, if it wasn’t for audiobooks. For technical books with diagrammes and formulas, I still get physical copies.

3. Scribble while you read? Do you like to write in your books, take notes, make comments, or do you keep your books clean clean clean?

Since I mostly own e-books and audiobooks, I don’t normally scribble. My technical books are attacked with highlighter, pen, notebook, and every other support, which can help me decode the deeper mysteries of neuroscience, quantum physics and modern evolution theories.

4. Does it matter to you whether the author is male or female when you’re deciding on a book? What if you’re unsure of the author’s gender?

It doesn’t matter at all. For instance, I picked up Robert Galbraith’s detective series about Strike and Robin and enjoyed it just as much as if it had been written by a female author. πŸ˜‰

5.  Ever read ahead? Or have you ever read the last page way before you got there?

I might have done this as a child, but nowadays I would never skip to the last page. I think. Probably.

6.  Organized bookshelves, or outrageous bookshelves?

Organised! Since I got my Kindle, I only keep a miniscule selection of physical books, mostly about art, science, philosophy, travel and photography. Marie Kondo would be so proud!

7.  Have you ever bought a book based on the cover (alone)?

I never judge anything or anyone by the cover! πŸ˜‡

8. Take it outside to read, or stay in?

Both, depending on the weather. I often listen to audiobooks, when I walk around in London.

Do you fancy joining in? Consider yourself tagged!

  1. Haha – loved your Robert Galbraith answer! I don’t care about the gender of the author either – why should it matter? I wish I could get down to thirty books – I cull often, but the piles still seem to get bigger every day…

    • Yeah, I don’t know anyone who would choose books based on the gender of the author. But I guess many people may prefer certain sub-genres or certain topics which give them a bias towards male or female authors, i.e. an indirect gender selection.

    • Book Jedi – love it! May the Force be with you πŸ™ πŸ˜‰. Would be great if you join in – I would love to read your answers!

  2. Listening to audiobooks while you walk around London? You lucky, lucky reader! I loved your answers, especially your clever Galbraith answer and also the Marie Kondo graphic. I may have told you already, but I’ve not yet read Harry Potter. I have done the sorting, and while I’ve always been told I’d be a Hufflepuff, I turned out a Ravenclaw. That graphic actually suits me! πŸ˜‚ I didn’t know about Ravenclaws and books! Your answers were all fun!

    • Yes, I remember you haven’t read Harry Potter. Seriously… πŸ˜‰. Hopefully, you get to them one day. The audiobooks narrated by Stephen Fry are highly recommended. There is a lot of humour in Harry Potter, which is captured perfectly by Fry. I haven’t done a sorting test, but I would be highly surprised if I didn’t turn out to be a Ravenclaw as well. But apparently one which prefer electronic books…

  3. Loved your graphics too and the wonderful answers! I had no idea when I read The Silkworm (there was a lot of speculation then which author was behind the pseudonym) and would never have guessed this author really so it doesn’t really play with me… I just like to know :-). Nice tag, I think most of my answers would be the same, except that I still haven’t really tried audiobooks very seriously πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Inge!πŸ˜€ Perhaps audiobooks are not right for everybody, but you should give them a chance. With the right narrator, it can be such a great experience.
